Traditional Thai Massage blends styles from Asian neighbors passed down through the generations. Unlike the scooping and continuous strokes of Western massage, the Traditional Thai Massage uses point pressure (acupressure), muscle stretching, compression, and Foot massage (reflexology).
Traditional Thai Massage, also known as Nuad Phaen Boran, is an ancient massage that involves not only deep muscle massage, but stretching, elements of shiatsu, yoga, point pressure (acupressure) and Foot massage (reflexology). Nuad Phaen Boran translates into “ancient massage" or “traditional massage" with origins dating back over 2500 years. Many times, monastery temples were built near medical schools so the art of Traditional Thai Massage was taught among both monks and medical students.
The objectives of both massages are similar, Thai massage to balance the body's elements and Foot massage for stimulating the activity of internal organs.
Thai massage uses thumbs, palms, hands, elbow, knee and foot, but Foot massage uses hands, fingers and wood stick with cream or oil. The Foot massage stimulating the activity of internal organs, improves blood and lymph circulation. All sensory nerves are mainly rooting at the plantar of the foot.
